A Study on Systemic Bias Against Zionist Content on Meta Platforms

Prepared by Betar North America | November 2024

This report investigates systemic anti-Zionist bias within Meta’s content policies, revealing an alarming trend of silencing Jewish voices while promoting pro-terror narratives. The investigation includes discussions with Israeli officials and analysis of Meta Oversight Board members and their decisions. Key findings include:

  • Censorship of Zionist Content:
Meta platforms regularly shadow-ban or remove Zionist content. In one case, Betar, a 100-year-old Zionist organization, was removed over a satirical post while pro-terror narratives like “Jihad” and “From the River to the Sea” remained active.

  • Meta’s Oversight Board:
Comprised of individuals with anti-Israel biases, such as Tawakkol Karman (Muslim Brotherhood leader) and Nighat Dad (activist critical of Israel). The board’s decision to label criticism of “From the River to the Sea” as Islamophobia highlights its double standards.

  • Collaboration with 7amleh:
Meta executives, including Miranda Sissons and Nick Clegg, met with 7amleh, an organization that defends pro-terrorist content and campaigns against protections for Jewish users.

Demands for Action

  1. Engage with Jewish Leaders: Immediate meetings with Jewish representatives to address systemic bias.
  2. Appoint Representatives: Designate officials in Israel and the U.S. to manage anti-Semitic content and decisions.
  3. Government Oversight: Call for investigations into Meta’s policies, including its promotion of anti-Zionist content.

As Ze’ev Jabotinsky once said, “We owe no apologies.” Zionist voices must be heard.
